Cameron, Dr. Mark Siegel and St. Catherine Residences
These three programs are staff-operated residences located in Peterborough. Each provides twenty-four hour care for six or seven multiply handicapped, medically complex (fragile) children. These homes are fully equipped for non-ambulatory children and for those in need of total care.
Cameron, Dr. Mark Siegel and St. Catherine residences were designed for Stewart Homes by the architecture firm Lett Smith Architects and constructed in the summer of 2003. They are state-of-the-art children's facilities meeting all health, safety, fire and child care requirements as set out in the most recent legislation. Brealey
This home,
purchased by Stewart Homes in 1982, has been renovated three times. It's
most recent and most thorough renovation, completed in October 2004,
involved an expansion of bedroom space to provide more single bedrooms,
upgraded living areas throughout, wider halls and accessible bathrooms,
complete front and back landscaping and a modern fire suppression system.
Brealey now has two large roll-in bathrooms for clients and a new staff
bathroom. Along with generous common spaces, it will have four new single
bedrooms and two double bedrooms. This will allow for many variations of
sleeping accommodation for the clients as their needs evolve.

Else - Adult Day Program
Our Adult Day Program was established in 1989 to provide opportunities for our young adults to experience social interaction and recreational activities in a safe, supportive setting while also improving their independent functioning in daily living and communication skills. Each client has a daily schedule tailored to his or her personal needs and preferences. Daily activities are planned to improve children's vocational, gross and fine motor and community living skills. Some clients receive daily, prescribed physiotherapy to maintain or improve their range of motion. Picture symbols, sign and verbal language are used as appropriate. The staff client ratio is one to three, higher on outings and in teaching sessions.
Some of the clients at else are medically fragile They form
a separate group where their medical and physical needs,
always our primary concern, can be closely monitored. There
is a focus in this group on sensory stimulation and
relaxation. Some clients receive daily, prescribed
physiotherapy to maintain or improve their range of motion.
Full days, five days per week. Stewart Homes has purchased the building shown here as the new home for its adult day program. Under renovation now, it will be officially opened early in 2005. The program will move into its new home at the end of February.
